Das Legoland Discovery Center ist ein Indoor-Spielplatz in der Neuen Mitte Oberhausen, dessen zentrales Element das Einkaufszentrum Centro ist. Die Spielbereiche des Discovery Center sind thematisch nach den verschiedenen Produktreihen der Legowelt unterteilt.

Eine dieser Produktreihen ist "Lego Friends". Zielgruppe dieser Reihe sind 5- bis 12-jährige Mädchen, die Steine sind in Pink- und Lilatönen gehalten und die Sets erinnern vom Spielprinzip an Puppenhäuser. Die fünf Hauptcharaktere in dieser Welt sind die Mädchen Stephanie, Mia, Andrea, Emma und Olivia, die sich in ihrer Freizeit hauptsächlich mit mädchentypischen Dingen wie Reiten, Mode und Schminken beschäftigen. Es gibt kontroverse Diskussionen darüber, ob eine so stereotypische Sichtweise der Geschlechter der heutigen Zeit noch angemessen ist.

Nichtsdestotrotz nimmt das Thema "Lego Friends" einen Teil des Discovery Centers ein. Am Eingang zu diesem Bereich ist eine Bank aufgestellt worden, die dazu einlädt, sich mit den Charakteren aus Lego Friends fotografieren zu lassen: Alle fünf Mädchen wurden als lebensgroße Figuren aus Legosteinen nachgebaut, zwei davon sitzen auf der Bank, die anderen drei stehen dahinter. Zwischen den sitzenden Figuren wurde soviel Platz gelassen, dass sich ein bis zwei Personen dazusetzen können und sich fotografieren lassen können. Obwohl die Größe der Bank und der Figuren offensichtlich wie die Zielgruppe der Reihe auf Kinder ausgelegt ist, ließ ich mir nicht den Spaß nehmen, ein Foto zu machen.

Die Koordinaten sind vom Eingang zum Discovery Center, da die Bank in einem Gebäude steht. Die Bank ist nur zugänglich mit einer Eintrittskarte zum Legoland Discovery Center (Stand 2019: 17,95 Euro / Erwachsener).
Legoland Discovery Center is an indoor playground in the New Center of Oberhausen, whose central element is the shopping mall Centro. The play areas of the Discovery Center are thematically divided according to the different product lines of the Lego world.

One of these product lines is "Lego Friends". The target group of this series are 5- to 12-year-old girls, the stones are held in pinks and lilacs and the sets remind of the principle of dollhouses. The five main characters in this world are the girls Stephanie, Mia, Andrea, Emma and Olivia, who spend their free time mainly dealing with girl-specific things like riding, fashion and make-up. There is controversy over whether such a stereotypical view of the sexes is still appropriate today.

Nonetheless, Lego Friends is a part of the Discovery Center. At the entrance to this area, a bench has been set up, inviting to be photographed with the characters from Lego Friends: All five girls have been rebuilt as life-size figures from Lego bricks, two of them sitting on the bench, the other three standing behind it. There is enough room left between the sitting figures for one or two people to sit down and have their picture taken. Although the size of the bench and figures has obviously been chosen to fit the target group of children, I did not reject the fun to take a picture.

The coordinates are from the entrance to the Discovery Center, as the bank is inside of a building. The bank is only accessible with a ticket to the Legoland Discovery Center (as of 2019: 17.95 Euro per adult).
