The town of Washington is located 10 miles northwest of Purcell on Highway 24. A post office was first established in Washington in 1904, and the town was formed at statehood in 1907. The popular story is that the town is named, not for Pres. George Washington, but for a Caddo Chief who lived nearby, "Little Boy" George Washington.
The town hall is located at 204 N. Main in the downtown area. It is a one-story storefront, with a wood shake awning and four multi-paned windows and single entry door. The town does not have a website, and the Facebook page for the town does not give any information on the scope of the town business. The town hall is housed along with the police department. Its hours are Mon-Thurs: 8:30-2:00 and Fri: 8:30-noon. The phone number is 405-288-2578.
