Description:
[DE] "Johann Claudius von Lassaulx (* 27. März 1781 in Koblenz; † 14. March 1781 in Koblenz; † 14. October 1848 ibid.) was an architect working in the Prussian Rhine Province. Johann Claudius von Lassaulx was born as the eldest of seven children of the court alderman Peter Ernst von Lassaulx (1757-1809) and Anna Barbara Lassaulx, née Welter (1756-1799). After attending the Koblenz grammar school he studied law and medicine in Würzburg from 1798, but did not finish his studies and returned to Koblenz in 1804, where he opened a vinegar factory to earn a living for himself and his family. He finally worked as an architect and in 1812 became a district architect in Koblenz. Four years later he already held the position of a city and district building inspector in the now Prussian city. This was remarkable inasmuch as von Lassaulx was a pure autodidact in his new field of work. In 1817 he was even made a civil servant without having completed any appropriate training."
