A woman's wallet was stolen while she was a patient at OU Medical Center.

Article text:

Police are working to determine if a man accused of using a stolen credit card is the same person who stole it from a woman at a hospital in Edmond.

The woman was at OU Medical Center in Edmond when a thief swiped her wallet and jacket, according to police.

"The victim telling me, as you can imagine, she was just shocked to find out that somebody had stolen from her while she was in the hospital," said Emily Ward, with the Edmond Police Department.

In April, the victim was rushed to the hospital with breathing problems. She told KOCO 5 she never thought somebody inside would steal from her.

"How dare you? You know? How totally inconsiderate," the victim, who didn't want to be identified, said. "Somebody, I guess, liked my jacket, and in my jacket happened to be my wallet and personal things."

Some of those personal items included her driver's license, Social Security card and credit card.

According to police, a man went on a spending spree, buying more than $600 worth of items with the woman's stolen credit card. Police asked members of the public and officers if they recognize the man.

"And it was actually one of our other officers who recognized him from a prior arrest he had made," Ward said.

Police told KOCO 5 the man used the credit card but they are working to determine if he was the one who stole the jacket and wallet.
