This version of the coat of arms is carved in stone at the top of the town hall above the town hall.

The arms show a castle on a shield flanked by two types of cross. Above the castle are two heads that flank a pair of crosses.

Surmounting the shield is a crown consisting of 4 towers.

Below the shield is the legend VILA DE CASTRO MARIM.

"Castro Marim (Portuguese pronunciation: ['ka?t?u m?'?i] (About this soundlisten)) is a town and a municipality in the southern region of Algarve, in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 6,747,in an area of 300.84 km².

The current Mayor is Francisco Amaral, elected by the Social Democratic Party.

The municipal holiday is June 24.

In the Roman era, Castro Marim was known as Aesuris.

Every year in the end of August there is a Medieval Fair/Festival that reunites many people from across the world to perform, like medieval musicians, archers, swordsmen, dancers, troupes, etc. There are sellers too: blacksmiths, textile crafters (weaving), herbs sellers, etc.

In honour to his Portuguese mother, Lucia Gomes, from Castro Marim, Paco de Lucía - the Spanish composer and guitarist - named his thirteenth studio album Castro Marín."
Bearer of Coat of Arms: Town

Full name of the bearer: Castro Marim

Where is Coat of Arms installed (short description) ?:
At top of the town hall.

Material / Design: Stone

Blazon (heraldic description):
The arms are Or a castle Gules masoned Sable with port and windows Or upon a fess Vert and flanked at dexter by a rounded cross patty Gules and at sinister by a cross patty Gules voided Argent, all beneath a pair of keys Sable crossed per saltire pointing upwards, flanked at dexter by a Christian king’s head and at sinister by a Moorish king’s head (see about it), base Argent charged with two fesses wavy Azure. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters ""VILA DE CASTRO MARIM".
Meaning:
The wavy fesses stand surely for river Guadiana, which makes the eastern border of this municipality, facing Spain. The two heads are a regional symbol, shared by most Algarve subnational coats of arms. The crosses, Templar cross andChrist Knights’ Order cross, stand for the local importance of both orders. The castle stands for the actual castle of Castro Marim (which is not red), and may also be a canting element along with the waves, for "castro marim" means in Portuguese (though using two archaic words) "marsh castle". No idea about the keys, though. António Martins-Tuválkin, 8 May 2007
