It's easy to spot Pearls Candy and Nuts on Route 146A North Smithfield, Rhode Island, with its bold red- and white-striped roof, colorful candy murals on each side of the building, and candy cane stripped parking bullocks.
The front (southwest) side is the entrance and covered in stucco. An enormous jar of jelly beans completely engulfs the pair of doors while a giant hand reaches from beneath the awning to unscrew its lid. Assorted candies overflow from relatively smaller clear jars on each side of the doors. The two plate glass windows flanking the entrance read "SUGAR FREE" and "CANDY AND NUTS" respectively.
On the southeast, to the left, is vertical wood siding. A trompe l’oeil view through an arched opening with blue shutters offers a snow-capped mountain vista. A tremendous rainbow-striped hard candy takes the place of a setting sun beyond the mountains. To the right is cinder block painted with a cascading paper strip of candy dots.
You'll find the loading dock on the northwest side covered in "Hot Roasted Peanuts" as written on the cinder block above the garage door. Three electrical boxes mounted on the right edge of the wall are painted to resemble boxes of candy.
The back (northeast) is all cinder block with a solid white background. Centered at the top is "Pearls Candy and Nuts" in red. A ribbon of blue spans the entire side with a few pieces of wrapped hard candy along the section that twists. In the lower right corner a pile of chocolates spills from a white paper bag.
