This bridge was built to replace a ferry downstream that was used to carry people across the Columbia River. It was also used to carry water from Wenatchee (Chelan County) to East Wenatchee (Douglas County). On both sides you can see the frames that held the water flues. After they built a new four lane bridge over the river downstream from this one, it was used to carry the pipline for irrigation water. When they built the loop trail system they put a pedestrian lane on it to carry people over.
