[DE] "Die Nikolauskapelle (Alte Pfarrkirche von Bell)

Die Nikolauskapelle geht zurück auf eine spätromanische Capella, die wohl zwischen 1146 und 1189 von der Abtei Maria Laach errichtet wurde. Ursprünglich flach gedeckt, wurde sie in der ersten Hälfte des 13. Jahrhunderts eingewölbt. (Entsprechungen im Gewölbe des Paradieses des Laacher Münsters).

Der nur 4 mal 4,89 m große Kapellenraum wurde wohl schon 1713 durch ein Langhaus ergänzt, wodurch er zum Chor der Kirche wurde. 1715 war die Einwölbung des Langhauses vollendet und ein sechseckiges Glockentürmchen über dem Chordach errichtet. Nach 1719 baute man eine Sakristei an den Chorraum an.

1828 wurde die alte Kirche zur Pfarrkirche von Bell erhoben, deren Langhaus man zehn Jahre später unter Erhalt der baulichen Grundkonzeption auf 19,41 m verlängerte. Da auch mit dieser Vergrößerung das Raumproblem für die wachsende Pfarrei nicht entscheidend gelöst war, wurde an anderer Stelle 1913 - 1915 eine neue Pfarrkirche erbaut.

1920 zum Land- bzw. Jugendheim umgebaut und zeitweise an den Kath. Gesellenverein Köln verpachtet, wurde der Kirchenraum nach dem 2. Weltkrieg zu Wohnzwecken genutzt.

Nach Einsturz des Daches und des Langhaus-Gewölbes sah man 1961 keine andere Lösung als den Abriss der Kirche, wobei der spätromanische Kapellenraum erhalten blieb und in den Folgejahren renoviert wurde.

Die offene Westseite mit dem Triumphbogen wird heute von einem von Bruder Notker Becker / Marie Laach gestalteten Gitter abgeschlossen. An der Ostwand der Kapelle hängt ein von Erwin Nöthen gearbeitetes Kruzifix.

2007 - 2012 wurde die Kapelle durch Pfarrangehörige in ehrenamtlicher Arbeit grundlegend saniert und renoviert."

The Nikolauskapelle goes back to a late Romanesque capella, which was probably built between 1146 and 1189 by the Maria Laach Abbey. Originally flat, it was vaulted in the first half of the 13th century. (Correspondences in the vault of the Paradise of Laach Cathedral).

The chapel room, which measures only 4 by 4.89 m, was probably supplemented by a nave as early as 1713, making it the choir of the church. In 1715 the vaulting of the nave was completed and a hexagonal bell tower was erected above the choir roof. After 1719 a sacristy was added to the choir.

Since this extension did not solve the space problem for the growing parish, a new parish church was built elsewhere between 1913 and 1915.

In 1920, the church was converted into a country or youth home and temporarily leased to the Catholic journeyman association in Cologne.

After the collapse of the roof and the nave vault in 1961, no other solution than the demolition of the church was seen, whereby the late Romanesque chapel room was preserved and renovated in the following years.

The open west side with the triumphal arch is closed today by a lattice designed by Brother Notker Becker / Marie Laach. A crucifix worked by Erwin Nöthen hangs on the east wall of the chapel.
