From the Roadside America site: "This huge bust of Abraham Lincoln resides at Public Courthouse Square on the northwest corner of Elm and Church streets. The five-foot-tall head's official name is "Iron Determination.""

From the WIFR article from the day of dedication Sep 27, 2009. "The five-foot bronze statue of the commander in chief took six months to make. "It means a resolve to do things that leadership requires us to do to be faithful to the constitution, to the ideals that made this nation what it is to be faithful, strong, trusting, of those ideals and values," said John McClarey, the sculptor."

From the informational plaques: "Established in honor of the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States." The plaques contain a list of contributors and the stories of Lincoln's ties to the Rockford area: Lincoln and the Courthouse Square, Lincoln's Judicial Friends, The Great Reaper Trial of 1855, Reach Out and Touch Lincoln (where sculptor McClarey states"The figure of Lincoln shows a rugged and kind face, framed by untamed hair, and with jaws firmly set."), Iron Determination, Off to war - On to Glory, A Story of Love and War, Lincoln Country, Lincoln's First Visit.
