Roku 1213 daroval Premysl Otakar I. broumovský výbežek benediktinum z Prahy – Brevnova. Roku 1260 jim Premysl Otakar II. vlastnictví potvrdil.

In 1213 Premysl Otakar I gave the Broumov promontory benedictinum from Prague - Brevnov. In 1260, Premysl Otakar II. ownership confirmed. The relocation of the abbot from Brevnov to Broumov was of immense importance for the cultural and economic development of the town and the entire region. The administration and protection of property was ensured from the Broumov fortress, which was built for this purpose. Soon after 1300, under the reign of Abbot Bavaria (1290 - 1322), a Benedictine provostship was established in Broumov. Since the original fortress was burnt by rebellious soldiers, a monastery with a Gothic church dedicated to Sts. Vojtech. A part of the monastery farm was also a brewery founded in 1348. During the Hussite wars the importance of Broumov increased considerably, because the monastery on Brevnov was burnt down by the Hussites on May 20, 1420, and several monks were burnt. Abbot Nicholas II. with several religious brothers resorted to Broumov. They brought with them a number of valuable items, such as the great manuscript of the Bible, the so-called "CODEX GIGAS", which since 1648 has been a war booty in Sweden.
