Description:
Sidney Coe Howard was born on June 26, 1891 in Oakland, CA. He He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1915 and studied play writing at Harvard University. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1925 for his play They Knew What They Wanted and an Academy Award in 1940 for the screenplay for Gone with the Wind. He died of an accident at his farm in Tyringham, MA on August 23, 1939 at age 48. He was posthumously inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1981.
