With the development of commerce in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles at the end of the 19th century a rail link between the two became necessary. Milford's proximity to three national parks meant tourist dollars also passing through town. Milford's link to rail traffic continues, even lacking passenger business. This caboose would have once been used along that main route headed to or from SLC or LA. With the decline in the size of the freight crews do to technology the caboose plays a lesser role in the make up of a freight train. Number 25729 continues to play an active role in Milford.
