Jasper, situated in the Canadian Rockies, is, first and foremost, a tourist town. As such, the tourists need a place to picnic while the kiddies wear themselves out at a playground. Centennial Park fits that bill nicely, being well away from most of the bustle of the thousands of tourists the town welcomes annually and in a somewhat bucolic setting of mature trees and expanses of grass.
The playground is just inside the Maligne Avenue entrance at the southeast corner of the park, with parking available right at the entrance. In the playground is a large Jungle Gym with slides and lots of interesting attachments, enough to keep the little ones busy for quite awhile. Nearby are swings and a really big sandbox. The entire playground has a pea gravel base, with benches and picnic tables nearby. Washrooms are in the log building immediately east of the playground.
Jasper's major park, Centennial Park serves the needs of both visitors and residents, with playground, the aforementioned three ball diamonds, a soccer/rugby pitch, a log cabin with kitchen, public washrooms, and patio and a picnic area. As well, there are many benches arrayed about the park, as well as several picnic tables.
There's even a tree (still small as it was donated in 2017) which was donated to the Town of Jasper to mark Canada's 150th birthday.
