Jay's Smokin' BBQ is in Moorhead Center Mall. Moorhead's City Hall and offices are located in the four floors about the mall.

Jay Henrichs owns and runs this one location and as it says on his website, "Jay’s Smokin’ BBQ in the Moorhead Center Mall may be small, but we’re mighty good at what we do. We’ve only been here a short time, yet people are lining up to try our much celebrated, soon-to-be legendary barbeque meals. Keep in mind, though, hanging out in line is part of the barbeque experience!"

Personally, sauce is about the flavor. A little on the top is good, but I don't want my BBQ to have to be in a bowl. This was my first visit and I ordered Jay's Pork sandwich, pulled pork, Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce and Pickles on a caramelized onion Naan (Flat) Bread. The pork was moist and tender, with a good amount of sauce.

This is a store front, cooking in the back and in the front is a counter to order and pay, with a self-serve drink machine, sauce and utensils on a side wall. There is no seating at Jay's but the mall has a dozen or so tables and chairs in a general area across the hall.

Remember the city offices upstairs? I ordered at about quarter to noon and waited a minute behind two people. Eight or nine people showed up in the few minutes I waited for my sandwich. A guy I know in on the police force and he said it is not uncommon for Jay to close early after serving up all the pork and beef for the day.
