Clearwater is in the North Thompson River Valley in beautiful British Columbia. It has approximately 2,325 residents in this small community. Clearwater is known as the "Gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park".
Wells Gray Park's nickname is "Canada's Waterfalls Park" because 39 waterfalls are found within its boundaries. With its wide diversity of dense forested areas, to high mountain peaks, to rushing white waters makes this the ideal location for hiking, camping, water rafting and fishing as well as winter sports and other outdoor recreation very season of the year.
The Wells Gray Park Visitors Centre in Clearwater provides your passport to Wells Gray Park. You can purchase your pass to the park here and maps and information on the park are available. This is an interesting visitor centre which features a timeline of the park, animal and mineral displays. It was very busy the day we were there. Just to the side of the visitor centre is a small park home to Jerry the Moose a very well done metal sculpture. The Wells Gray Visitor Centre was opened on June 19, 1986. The plaque is mounted on a natural stone cairn near the entrance.
