Beschreibung und Geschichte der kleinen Thüringer Bahnstation
Die Bahnstrecke (Erfurt–)Kühnhausen–Bad Langensalza wurde am 25. November 1897 in Betrieb genommen. Zwischen Döllstädt und Gräfentonna war die Bahnstrecke von Erfurt nach Bad Langensalza mit der seit 1889 bestehenden Bahnstrecke von Ballstädt nach Straußfurt gebündelt.
Ab dem 24. Mai 1998 wurde die Bahnstrecke von der Erfurter Bahn (EB 1) betrieben. Hierbei kamen Fahrzeuge des Typs Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 zum Einsatz. Die Züge verkehrten von 5 bis 22 Uhr, zwischen 10 und 18 Uhr im angenäherten Stundentakt mit Kreuzung in Kühnhausen und in der Nebenverkehrszeit im 2-Stunden-Takt von Erfurt nach Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe bzw. Mühlhausen und benötigten für eine Fahrt Erfurt Hbf–Bad Langensalza 43 bis 52 Minuten.
Seit dem Fahrplanwechsel am 15. Dezember 2013 verkehrt auf der Strecke die DB Regio Südost. Diese setzt hier unter dem Namen Nordthüringenbahn im Wechsel Regionalbahn- und Regionalexpresszüge (Baureihen 641 und 642) ein.[1] Letztere halten nur noch an wenigen Unterwegsbahnhöfen, verkürzen aber dadurch die Fahrzeit zwischen Erfurt und Bad Langensalza auf bis zu 41 Minuten.
Der Bahnhof Gräfentonna liegt bei km 20 und hat ein im thüringischen Fachwerkbaustil errichtetes Empfangsgebäude. Bis zum Jahr 1947 war der Ort auch direkt von Gotha aus erreichbar. Die Gleise wurden als 'Reparationsleistungen' an die ehemalige Sowjetunion abgetreten.

The railway line (Erfurt) Kühnhausen-Bad Langensalza was taken on 25 November 1897 in operation. Between Döllstädt and Gräfentonna, the railway line from Erfurt to Bad Langensalza was bundled with the existing since 1889 railway line from Ballstädt to Straussfurt.
As of May 24, 1998, the railway line was operated by the Erfurt Railway (EB 1). Here, vehicles of the type Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 were used.
