"This building houses a United States District Court in the Northern District of Texas.

This court handles Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Navarro and Rockwall Counties.

The first federal court was in Galveston in 1846 and covered the whole state. In 1857, the state was divided into Eastern and Western Districts. In 1879, Texas was further subdivided with the creation of the Northern District taking territory from both Eastern and Western Districts."
