Comme chaque 3ème semaine du mois d’août, le Fort célébre la fête de Saint-Louis. Mais pourquoi la Saint-Louis ? Il faut remonter à la fin du 13e siècle pour en trouver l'origine. C'est en l'honneur de Louis IX, dit « le Saint ». Ce dernier a été le premier souverain à conférer un droit divin à la monarchie de France. En Nouvelle-France, c'est en 1684, que l'évêque de Québec, François de Laval, décrète que la Saint-Louis sera désormais fêtée d'obligation pour tous. La Saint-Louis est alors célébrée tous les 25 août. Cette célébration est l'occasion pour les rois de France de recevoir les hommages de leur cour et de leurs troupes militaires. En Nouvelle-France, c'est le gouverneur qui est honoré.
Et pour Chambly, cette fête revêt un caractère tout particulier. En effet, le premier fort a été érigé en bois pendant la troisième semaine d'août 1665, période où les militaires s'apprêtaient à célébrer la Saint-Louis. C'est donc en l'honneur des rois de France que le capitaine du régiment de Carignan-Salières, Jacques de Chambly, donna le nom de Saint-Louis à ce premier fort.
Au menu : campement militaire d’époque avec la garnison et des métiers anciens , des musiciens ambulants, et une zone de jeux pour toute la famille.

Like every 3rd week of August, the fort celebrates the feast of Saint-Louis. But why St. Louis? We must go back to the end of the 13th century to find the origin. It is in honor of Louis IX, known as "the Saint". The latter was the first sovereign to confer a divine right to the monarchy of France. In New France, it is in 1684, that the bishop of Quebec, François de Laval, decrees that the Saint-Louis will be celebrated from now on of obligation for all. St. Louis is celebrated every 25th of August. This celebration is an opportunity for the kings of France to receive the homage of their court and their military troops. And for Chambly, this holiday has a very special character. Indeed, the first fort was erected in wood during the third week of August 1665, when the military was preparing to celebrate the Saint-Louis. It is therefore in honor of the kings of France that the captain of the Carignan-Salières Regiment, Jacques de Chambly, gave the name of Saint-Louis to this first fort.
On the menu: period military camp with the garrison and old crafts, traveling musicians, and a playground for the whole family.
