This lion statue was purchased with the funds raised by students and adults. After raising money for a big playground up-grade the Longfellow parent and teacher group purchased a fiberglass lion to put next to the playground to commemorate the work of the community. But it was stolen the first summer it was at the school.
That summer students started raising money to get a new lion statue. It was decided that a heavier statue would be a good idea and that is how this concrete lion came to be at Longfellow Elementary.
As this is an elementary school be sure to stop by after school hours or on days the school is not in session.
