Louis Fréchette, grand poète canadien du XIXe siècle, est né dans cette maison. Nationaliste, il se considérait comme le chantre des francophones de l'Amérique du Nord, et ses poèmes glorifient la langue et les traditions du Canada français. Ses oeuvres les plus connues sont probablement Les Fleurs boréales, prix de l'Académie française, et La Légende d'un peuple, poème épique sur l'histoire du Canada. Fréchette fut également journaliste, avocat et député au Parlement canadien (1874-1878). Membre fondateur de la Société royale du Canada, il en fut élu président en 1902.

This was the birthplace of Louis Frechette, a leading Canadian poet of the l9th century. A nationalist, he saw himself as the laureate of the French people of North America, and his poems celebrate the language and traditions of French Canada. His best known works are perhaps Les Fleurs boreales, which won a prize form the Academie française, and La Legende d'un peuple, an epic of Canadian history. He was also a journalist, a lawyer and a member of the Canadian parliament (1874-78). A charter member of the Royal Society of Canada, he was elected its president in 1902.
