This Methodist church is across from Veteran’s Park and next door to MVP. It is in the Upper New York Conference. The church was organized in 1872. It is a large brick building with a tall steeple and red doors.
Schenectady was originally settled by people from the Netherlands. In June, 1661, Arendt Van Curler purchased from the Indians the "Great Flat," which included Schenectady. It was at various times attacked by the French and Indians.

"FUMC is involved in missions locally in Schenectady, nationally in many parts of the US, and internationally with special connections in Nicaragua. We serve a community breakfast free of charge on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. The community breakfast does not take place the first Sunday of every month. We have a long standing relationship with CEPAD in Nicaragua. (See our mission page). We take the Bible seriously, but not literally. We also have some ways to get involved musically."
