"The AMP in Downtown Carrollton now has a brighter glow with the face of Will Garrett. Each one of us knows about the tragic night in 2012 but we will never forget the life legacy of Will. Even at a young age, Will showed compassion to his family and was a true best friend to many. In re-reading the obituary from Almon Funeral Home it is clear to me that positive energy from Will Garrett’s legacy surrounds our city. Carrollton Main Street Director, Phoebe Ericson said it best earlier today, “Beautiful for a beautiful young man.” She also thanks Mandy Maierhofer for helping in naming the AMP stage. You can pay tribute to Will anytime by just stopping for a moment and looking up at the beautiful picture on the AMP’s wall.

"WILL GARRETT: William "Will" Randall Garrett, age 8, of Carrollton, Georgia died Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Will was born in Carrollton, Georgia on May 1, 2004, the son of Joe and Ali Garrett. Survivors include his parents and brothers Turner, Charlie and Henry; grandparents Jimmy and Betty Garrett, Carrollton and Randy and Lynde Turner, Carrollton; great-grandparents Bobby Lovvorn, Bremen, Mary Nell Lovvorn, Bremen and Hazel Turner, Carrollton; uncles and aunts Bob and Joy Garrett, Cape Girardeau, MO, Bill and Jennifer Garrett, Carrollton, Lucie Anne Turner, Carrollton, Lydia and Eric McLendon, Carrollton, Mary and David Stark, New Orleans, LA; cousins Ellen and Anna Garrett, Cape Girardeau, MO, Jill and Abby Garrett, Carrollton, Luke Turner, Carrollton and Olivia and Oliver McLendon, Carrollton.

Will was an excellent third grade student at Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton where he was a best friend to all his classmates. As an aspiring musician, Will played the piano, drums and guitar. He recently played drums for the annual Fairy Tale Princess Ball held at Carrollton Elementary School for the entire second grade.
Whether it was the music of Beethoven or Warren Zevon, his piano skills, under the tutelage of his favorite teacher Terry Lowry, touched many lives.

As an athlete, Will loved cross country, soccer, basketball, football, tennis and golf. Recently, he completed his first 5k run alongside his mom and dad. But it was his love of outdoors that he felt most at home.

Will loved just being at home with his family playing in the yard, building forts, digging the yard, riding his bicycle and collecting insects and bugs with his special next door neighbors Lilee-Raye and Eliza Cousins.

He loved the kitchen and learned to grind coffee beans and make coffee and scramble eggs for his mom and dad when he was 6 years old. Will was his mom's biggest helper always setting the table for supper and helping her cook. For his 6th birthday, Will asked for a leaf blower which he mastered by keeping his driveway always clean from leaves and pinestraw.

His love for his family was unconditional. His bond with his brothers was true and strong and he was a caretaker of each member of his family. His smile was electrifying. He was the embodiment of joy and energy and life with a spark that touched everyone he ever met. His influence will continue to live and inspire for eternity.

The funeral service will be held on All Saints Day, Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 2 p.m. at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Overflow seating with closed circuit television will be held at Almon Funeral Home Chapel and St. Margaret's Church Parish Hall. Interment will be at Shiloh Methodist Cemetery in Burwell.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 1 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Almon Funeral Home. The Very Rev. Hazel Glover will officiate. Terry Lowry, David Stark, Billy Stark and Joe Stark will provide music. Pallbearers will be Bill Garrett, Eric McLendon, Bill Parrish, William "Billy" Stark, David Stark and Joe Stark. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Margaret's Church (Children's Program), 606 Newnan St., Carrollton, GA 30117.
