Commemorative plaque for the deported Jewish citizens at the stairway to tracks 6 - 8a of the Erfurt main railway station.

In May 1942, the deportations of Jewish citizens began in Thuringia. Like everywhere in the German Reich, they were forced to leave their homes after the start of the war in 1939 and to live separated from non-Jewish neighbours in "Jewish houses" under poor conditions. There, a few days before the deportation, she was asked to meet on 9 May at assembly points in her respective city. They were taken by train to Weimar, held there in the cattle auction hall, and on 10 May deported together with Jews from Saxony to a ghetto in the Polish town of Belzyce . Almost all of the 513 men, women and children from Thuringia were murdered in Belzyce, in the Majdanek concentration camp or in other extermination camps.

The commemorative plaque says (translated):
To commemorate the children, women and men from Erfurt who, because of their Jewish faith, had to make their last journey from here to the extermination camps of the National Socialists.
