The first sermon preached in the town of Cuyler was by Benoni Harris, in 1808. The services were held here in Slingerland's barn. After that event, religious services were kept up with something like regularity by supplied or traveling ministers who preached in private houses or school houses until the year 1839, when the Methodist church building of Cuyler was erected.
