This pillar is situated on a 189 metre height called Tay Mount in an area of rolling wooded hills in the northern part of Fife, south of the Firth of Tay. The hill is mainly of grassy pastureland although the pillar does not quite appear to lie on the actual summit. It is still in good condition, though views are restricted in most directions due to the surrounding woodland.
STEEPNESS: Nothing particularly taxing other than the final few yards up to the pillar.
TERRAIN: From the road it is all on well trodden grass with a few muddy patches.
ACCESSIBILITY: Reached from the minor road to the north and around a quarter of a mile from there.
NAVIGATION: Not visible from the road and seemingly hard to reach, but tyre tracks run eastward from the road between the field and wood. After a hundred yards or so a faint path can be seen heading southwards through the wood which leads to the corner of a fence where a stile can be climbed. From here it is straight up the hill in an easterly direction where the pillar can finally be seen.
DANGER: The fence is of barbed-wire but fortunately the stile eases the route over.
