This house was built in 1853 for Louis Auguste Benoist an early banker in St. Louis. The house was built in the country for his third wife after his first two wives died of cholera. The house was designed by renowned St. Louis architect George I. Barnett, who had also designed the Missouri Governor's Mansion. The house is now owned and operated by the Affton Historical Society, they have renovated the house and it is open for tours the third Sunday of each month from April through October and at other times by special arrangements.
