Since 2004, several dinosaur tracks have been discovered by amateur naturalists (mostly belonging to the Naturalist Society of Oyonnax) on the French side of the Jura.Loulles is the oldest site: 1500 footprints that correspond 21 sauropod dinosaur tracks, and 6 theropods (bipedal carnivorous dinosaurs) date back to -155 million years ago. The site was discovered in 2004 and was partially covered with a protective layer of vegetation in 2014. The freezing of the water in this quarry and the trampling of tourists began to damage the tracks, some of which remains fortunately accessible to visitors by a footbridge. The many traces of dinosaurs are highlighted in a colorful way, to better observe them.
