"Standing figure of E. King Gill. Proper right hand holds a football helmet at his side.

On Jan. 22, 1922 during a post season game, E. King Gill was called from the stands to help the football team. Because of the numerous injuries in the first half, coach D.X. Bible feared he would not have enough men to finish the game. Gill, a reserve who had left the football team after the regular season to play basketball, was the only man left on the bench when the game ended. Texas A&M won 22-14. The sculpture, in memory of Gill who died in the summer of 1978, was a gift from the Class of 1980."
