The mural is painted on both sides of the bridge on the Sandstone Trail at the start of the Whitchurch Arm. The bridge carries the road Meadowcroft over the path on the Sandstone Trail. The Whitchurch Arm is a former canal that was a branch of the Llangollen Canal Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal.
The mural was created by volunteers and local school children as part of the Spruce Up Sandstone project. It depicts a river scene with plants, birds, animals and fish.
The project organised by McDonald's in Whitchurch was created to gather volunteers to help maintain and improve the local environment specifically along the Sandstone Trail.
The local community were invited to give their ideas of how to make the town look great and preserve the surrounding wildlife, tow paths and trails.
"The kids from SJT with the help of head teacher Dave and Art Dept head Claire have begun adding some really amazing colour and life to the concrete bridge on site. Here's a few pics. One more day to go now for the finishing touches." Source: (
