The mill was constructed of locally quarried limestone in 1851 to grind the local grain into flour. The top of the mill supported sails which when driven by the wind turned wooden cogs that in turn drove a shaft of the grindstone below. The mill was redundant in less than a decade due to the rise of steam powered mills.
