"From the top of its 51 meters, its bell tower dominates the marshes. The Notre-Dame de Bouin church even serves as a bitter point for the sailors of Bourgneuf Bay.
Patrice Baldau and Martine Bounet, two deputy mayors, Jean-Yves Gagneux, propose, for this summer, free tours of this bell tower every Wednesday, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, by appointment and in groups of six maximum people. Indeed, the staircase leading to the balcony of the church and giving a magnificent view of the maraîchin landscape is narrow.
Two steps to reach the balcony. First of all, the clock room. At least the old clock. "She stopped working in 2008, but she lived well," says Patrice Baldau. Replaced by an electric version today, it is quite a complex mechanism (that of a comtoise clock of 1902) which is presented to the visitors in this first floor.
A few steps later, the bell room takes place. Four bells of the nineteenth century, all with an assigned rating, all in harmony ... Except one. "It's a peculiarity of Notre-Dame de Bouin, the biggest bell is supposed to do a re, but it produces a sound three-four commas underneath," says the guide. A peculiarity that has not shocked the citizens and gives a unique sound.
At the end of the 149 steps: a view. A magnificent landscape, that of the old salt marshes, which dominate the city of Bouin. Through the church Notre-Dame, it is all the heritage of the town that is unveiled.
Every Wednesday from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Notre-Dame de Bouin, free tours. On reservation by group of six people maximum. Duration: 30 minutes. Information: +33 (0) 2 51 49 74 14. "

Renseignements : 02 51 49 74 14."
