Beside the large attraction is a bronze tablet with the following transcription:
THE GOLDEN GUITAR
"This Golden Guitar stands as a tribute to the original Golden Guitar which was designed as a trophy for the Australasian Country Music Awards when they started in January 1973.
"In contrast to the trophy which is 22cm high, this Golden Guitar stands 12 metres high. it is a faithful replica of the original, which explains the absence of strings, while the original is cast in bronze, the Golden Guitar is crafted from fibreglass.
"A list of the winners of Golden Guitars reads like a Who's Who of Australasian country music, with Slim Dusty having received the most awards over the years. Thus it is appropriate that the golden Guitar was officially unveiled on January 22nd 1988, by
SLIM DUSTY M.B.E.
There is another plaque set into a block of concrete on the brick pavers, with the following inscription:
"This Golden Guitar was conceived and built by Warwick Bennet AM and Max Ellis AOM
"As one of the originators of the Country Music Awards, which started in 1973, Max was involved in the creation of the original Golden Guitar trophy on which this guitar was based.
"Warwick was the Mayor of Tamworth City Council from 1979 to 1986. The fibreglass structure was constructed by Len Surtees of Tamworth.
"This plaque celebrates the 20th anniversary of the unveiling of the Golden Guitar, which has become the icon of Country Music Capital."
