The University of Copenhagen Botanical Garden has 27 glasshouses. The most impressive of which is the 100 meter long, 3000-square meter conservatory complex which was built in 1874. The complex contains the 30 meter diameter by 16 meter high circular Palm House in the center flanked by a pair of 35 meters long glasshouses. A cast-iron spiral stairway leading to a passageway at the top of the Palm House.
The botanical garden is part of the Natural History Museum of Denmark, which is also part of the University of Copenhagen. It serves both research, educational and recreational facility.
The stamp was issued by Denmark on January 24, 2001 as part of a three stamp set featuring the Botanical Gardens.
