This large sculpture consists of 5 separate cast aluminum pieces that depict a giant struggling to emerge from the ground after being buried during a prolonged slumber.
Completed in 1980 by famed artist J. Seward Johnson Jr. the piece was originally located at Hains Point in Washington, D.C. In 2007 the piece was purchased by the developers of National Harbor and moved here. Installation was completed in 2008.
The piece was added to the Smithsonian Collection in 1985.
