Chetwynd, until the 1990s, the lumber and pulp industries helped support the economy of the area. Though still a thriving community, Chetwynd is known as the "Chainsaw Sculpture Capitol of the World". Since 1992, in June, Chetwynd holds an annual event where 12 chainsaw carvers from around the world are invited to compete in their chainsaw competition.

There are over 225 chainsaw carvings displayed throughout the town. You can pick up a walking tour guide at the visitor's center or download it from their website.

Lumberjack is better known as "Chetwynd, the Little Giant of the Great Peace". The wooden chainsaw carving is about 2.7 metres (9 ft) in height and located alongside the highway. He is nicely painted with a red shirt, blue jeans, and he is holding an ax. The first Lumberjack was originally placed in 1967. In 2009, the first statue was replaced with this more updated version and reflects the popularity of the annual chainsaw carving event.
