Located in the public Reed-Keppler Park near the entrance to the Turtle Splash Water Park, surrounded by a wooden fence.
E, J & E stands for Elgin, Joliet & Eastern. They have a fan webpage at: (
visit link) It includes a caboose roster which listed this caboose thusly:
"Maker: Morrison Int. | Type: Cupola | Build Date: ?/?/56? | Build #: ? Notes: Status: 2/03 Stored at Joliet Yard and usually used on Joliet switch jobs. Repainted: 1/04 at East Joliet Shops."
I'll send them a note to report my find.
The Chicago Tribune also has a surprisingly detailed article on the placing of the caboose on April 3, 2013 and the history of the rail line in Wheaton at: (

It states that the caboose was a gift of the Canadian National Railroad.
The 508 could stand paint job in the near future.
Thanks to The Static Railroad Equipment page at: (
visit link) for pointing this one out.
