Auf dem Kirchhof der St. Nicolai Kirche in Alfeld steht seit Juni 2011 die etwa 1,60 Meter hohe Sandstein Statue des Künstlers Kurt Schwerdtfeger (1897-1966).
Sie zeigt ein leicht abstrahiertes Abbild von Franz von Assisi ("Franziskus") als Bettelmönch.
Die Plastik stammt aus dem Jahr 1960, zu dieser Zeit war Schwerdtfeger Professor an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Alfeld. Sie wurde mit Hilfe der Alfelder Bürgerstiftung, Sparkasse, Volksbank und dem Verein für Kunst und Kultur e.V. aus privatem Besitz erworben.
Since June 2011 stands this, about 1.60 metres high sandstone statue by the artist Kurt Schwerdtfeger (1897-1966) on the churchyard of the St. Nicolai Church in Alfeld. It shows a slightly abstract image of Francis of Assisi ("Franziskus") as mendicant friar.
The sculpture dates back to 1960, when Schwerdtfeger was professor at the Pädagogische Hochschule Alfeld (Alfeld school of education). It was acquired from private property with the help of the Alfelder Bürgerstiftung, Sparkasse, Volksbank and the Verein für Kunst und Kultur e.V.
