This is one of the few remaining steel truss bridges along the Yellowhead Highway.

Most all of the original steel and wood truss bridges along the Yellowhead have been replaced by now with less aesthetic steel girder and reinforced concrete bridges. This one, over the Barriere River, is actually in the town of Barriere.

Known as a Camelback Truss Bridge, this was the most common type of steel truss bridge erected in British Columbia in days gone by. While we have seen many of them in the province, now they are becoming fewer and farther between.

Dated 1957 on the concrete end posts facing oncoming traffic, the 150 foot long Barriere Bridge carries the Yellowhead Highway over the Barriere River in the town of Barriere.
Date Built: 01/01/1957
