This larger-than-life rendition of a bunny cast in bronze is based on Margaret Wise Brown's picture book, "The Runaway Bunny" (1942). In a full on sprint, the lifelike statue by Joan Binney Ross measures about ten feet long and three feet high. It resides in Westerly, Rhode Island at Wilcox Park. The majority of Brown's work was donated to the nearby Westerly Public Library after she died.
A plaque mounted to a boulder beside the statue reads:

A plaque mounted to the library wall beside the main entrance tells of the connection between Brown and Westerly. It reads:

(1910 - 1952) penned more than 100 children's books
including The Runaway Bunny (1942), Little Fur Family (1946),
and Goodnight Moon (1947).
Margaret spent many happy times visiting her close friend
Jessica Gamble Dunham in nearby Stonington, Conn.
After Margaret's untimely death, her sister Roberta Rausch
And Jessica donate a near complete set of her published
works, personal papers, manuscripts, and books to Westerly
Library where it could be housed and cared for.
