When Arizona was a territory and Phoenix was a few hay farms, residents travelled by wagon to catch the train in Maricopa. Times changed, Phoenix changed, and a grand station was built in Phoenix. Rail travel changed and times changed again. Passenger service to Phoenix ceased and residents again had to travel to Maricopa to catch a train. The current station contains a small waiting room and ticket office. It is open only when a train is expected.
