The nice Baroque statue of Neptune, the Roman God of freshwater and the sea, was originally placed in Archbishop’s Chateau gardens in nearby town Kromeríž (now on UNESCO world heritage list). It moved during the centuries at various place in the neighborhood. In Prerov it was placed at first on the yard of the Prerov Castle, then it was moved to the local park and finally it was placed in the small park at the remains of the city ramparts near the left bank of Becva river. Unfortunately it was recently vandalized and it lost one of its hands.Neptune is here traditionally depicted standing/riding on two big fishes and holding his famous trident.

Neptune was a Roman god from mythology responsible for sea and fresh water. In Greek mythology, Poseidon is similar to Neptune. Like Poseidon, Neptune was also worshipped by the Romans as a god of horses, under the name "Neptune Equester," patron of horse-racing.

The statue is registered as the cultural monuments of the Czech Republic - cataloque number 1000124511 - (visit link)
