St Lawrence was at one time full-services Roman Catholic church. As with many inner city churches, declining parish numbers and increasing infrastructure costs conspired to cause many closures and downgrading of facilities and services.
However, the Diocese of Harrisburg has agreed to designate St Lawrence as a Roman Catholic Chapel, which allows the rites of the Church to be carried out.
Currently, Mater Dei Latin Mass Community conducts daily Mass in Latin.
