Shirley Case was truly a Canadian hero and humanitarian, she dedicated her life to helping children in third-world countries through education and improving living conditions. The mural shows Shirley in Africa: Nigeria and Chad, Nicaragua and Afghanistan.

Shirley Case was tragically murdered while in Afghanistan along with two other aid workers: one American - and another Canadian, Jacqueline Kirk from Quebec. The aid workers' clearly marked van was ambushed and riddled with bullets on a road near Kabul. Their Afghan driver was also killed. The Taliban has claimed responsibility. Shirley was 30 years of age.
