Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1759–1805) is generally considered the most famous and most influential German poet.

One of the busts in Potsdam's Dichterhain (Poet's Grove) depicts the famous poet.

Main Belt Asteroid was discovered on September 24, 1960 by by Dutch astronomers C. J. van Houten, and I. van Houten-Groeneveld after investigating photographic plates taken by Tom Gehrels.

There is also an impact crater on Mercury named after Goethe.
