"Wild Watkins Beyond stunning scenery, the nature of Watkins Glen provides important habitat for a diversity of animals. Listen to the springtime serenade of at least 50 species of songbirds. Creek chubs and black-nosed dace dart below the crashing falls. Turtles sun themselves in the calm waters of Glen Creek Lake and Punch Bowl Lake. Deer seek refuge in the woodlands and skunk, coyote, and fox emerge at night to hunt."
"The gorges dripping water provides critical habitat for the rare grey petaltail dragonfly. These friendly beauties may perch on rocks, tree trunks, and even hikers. Please do them no harm!"
" The park's plentiful wetlands provide ample food sources for mink. Their slim bodies allow them to burrow and swim in tight spaces, but without fat to spare, mink must eat a third of their body weight each day just to survive."
"The Eastern Phoebe is among many songbirds that return to the gorge each spring. Look for it hunting insects or attending to nests tucked high in cliff ledges."
"The crayfish's hard exoskeleton affords it some protection in rough creek waters. Its two large front pincers ward off predators and secure prey, while the animlals many smaller pincers tear and move food to its mouth."
