David Ferguson was a mason from the Angus town of Brechin who, following being left near blinded in an accident, established his own sweet shop in Kirriemuir, selling Star Rock, a type of humbug made in the shop to his own recipe.
Over the years the recipe has been handed down, firstly to his family, and then to the various owners who have taken over the premises in the Roods in the town centre. The current owner took over in the summer of 2018.
The Star Rock comes in the following flavours: Original Lemon, Butterscotch, Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger, Mint, and Horehound.
The shop also makes tablet, treacle, toffee, and fudge.
Other than those made in the shop, the shelves are stacked with almost every conceivable confectionery in vast jars.
The shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday, with Monday being the day the sweets are made in the back shop.
The Star Rock Shop can be found on the north side of the town centre on the corner of the pedestrianised Roods, and Reform Street.
