The board is located on the promenade at New Brighton overlooking the River Mersey.

This side of the Mersey is on the western side of the Wirral, whilst the eastern side of the Mersey is the port of Liverpool.

The board tells us that 'This stretch of the Mersey Estuary is part of the Mersey Narrows, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its large areas of of inter tidal sand and mudflats, supporting nationally and internationally important bird populations'.
