“Passage” is described by the artist Vasilis Vasili as a “The sculpture is a space that simultaneously acts as a shelter and as sculptural portal.
"Passage" is 15' high, 9 ton, Nova Scotia granite boulder set on a low granite base. In the middle of the boulder is carved a polished curved passageway, one side of which is painted red. The opening frames a view to the east, to George’s Island, in Halifax Harbor.
Vasili has said “To me, this makes sense for Halifax, which has traditionally been a gateway for many immigrants to Canada from around the world. I wanted to create a space which can function as a window to connect to the other side.”
A plaque mounted on a granite base nearby is inscribed:
