The 81 millimetre Mortar. "Up on the hill, the [German] mortars started. Bang! Bang! Bang! … We all jumped and streaked for our holes … As I ran, I had one ear cocked to listen to the mortar bombs. I could tell that most of them would go over me or behind me, but one was coming down ahead of me." Sergeant Charles D. Kipp, Lincoln and Welland Regiment.
