German Maschinengewehr 08
The MG-08, the German Army's standard machine gun, could fire 450 rounds a minute up to a range of 1,800 metres. German machine gun crews, in protected positions and supporting one another, killed hundred of thousands during the war. Water kept the MG-08 from overheating during sustained fire. Armoured protection and a shield kept the water jacket from being punctured by enemy fire.
